Blackberry India Redington - Blackberry not repairing defect product

From almost day 1 the USB of the device was defective . I had great difficulty in charging the device and transferring any media to it . But one day it just stopped charging and the USB would not connect . Since it has been just 6 months that I purchased the product , I went to the service center(Redington India Ltd) and they said the usb cable provided with the product was defective . So I tried various cables and none of them worked . So I went to the service center again and they sent it to Bangalore for servicing . 15 days later the person at the service center calls me to say that the warranty does not cover the USB port . She said I have to pay to get that part repaired . So , is she saying if the product is defective then the consumer has to suffer the consequences ? I want my tablet repaired and if not then I want a new piece .
