Dear Airtel,
I have raised these quesries and complaints against your way of making big business, but have got no answeres form any sensible executive in your corporation yet. So raising my disagreeents here.

1. I have apost paid connection on which only calling services are enabled, and never ever wanted 2G data services (GPRS/EDGE).
2. Airtel enabled some VAS on this number, and started billing around Rs.125/- form month of May 2012. I did not mind paying, but this happened for 2 more months from then.
3. From June, july and Aug 2012 months, i see that 2G data services are charged at 30p per 20kB of data downloads, which for the past 3 months have amounted to Rs.7000/- in billing. I paid June and July bills and raised the issue, but am decided not to pay Aug bill as airtel is reluctant to acknowledge that the services was enabled by them.
4. I chked the APN settings, and see that 404airtelgprs.com is set which was not set by me. Checked with Airtel CC and they said data services are enabled on default and they charge every one default. This is a random answer, as i never signed up and i do not have free money to pay these filthy businesses.
5. Airtel care center on the road side confirmed that no data services are enable don default unless we opt for the facility. They also confirmed that the APN settings are set automatically on AIR by Airtel when we first insert the SIM into the phone. Anyone can check and confirm.
6. I checked the post paid application, the terms and conditions have no mention of default 2G data services on the application, so enabling the service is against thier own policy.
7. If i really needed data services I would have went with plans existing for 2G data @ Rs98/- for 2GB rather than paying Rs.2500/- for 150MB. Anyone with normal sense will do this and so I believe Airtel considers its customers Stupid.
8. I talked to Airtel CC manager Arun, and he said he cannot help in this regard, and so I just have to pay accepting the fact that i have to bow down to these corporate culture, which is screwing its customers for their patience with them.
9. I hope airtel will stop pushing data services to people who do not enable it and STOP charging them unnecessarily in this time of high inflation and uncertain times of our country.

Is Airtel so desperate to make money out of poor customers just to show some good number sin thier revenues?

PS: I am an Airtel sharre holder, and have decided to dump the stocks of a company that is this low on ethics towards business.

Complainant's Goal: Show Airtel that they are at fault for enabling services without user consent.

As per Airtel Customer care executives, I also deleted the APN settings for 2G data services "404airtelgprs.com" from the mobile in August. But found the same activated again in September. So if they can do this, whats the point in having a mobile service which pushes unwanted services on to my phone?

According to the details available through my investigation, Airtel made these settings through a OTA message setting in Nov 2011, allowing users to use free data of 1GB valid for a month. After the last date, the user was supposed to move to a 2G data plan, as per Airtels explanation.
In case the user did not choose a data plan, airtel charges the user for data @30p per 10kb. If this is not extortion in the modern age, then what is?
If the user knew Airtel 2G GPRS data is activated, then he/she would have asked them to move to a plan or to block this.
Did airtel ever call or intimate the user of thie service enabling by any means? If so do show me the agreement or proof of same?
So currently Airtels argument that the charges are valid to a tune of Rs.8000/- for 2G GPRS data service, for a totla download of probably 200MB, is highly invalid, and dirty trick played by them.
Meanwhile, I have moved to a new service provider and u can suck it up if u still claim the data charges are valid theory.

Airtel was fast enough to respond but when asked for details, the only response they gave was that the charges are valid and I have to pay.
The questions I asked them are as below.
Valid is fine but i have the right to know regarding the details of the service activation.
2. Provide me with the details of the activation of the services that you are charging for.
3. When and how the activation was done?
4. Under what terms and conditions did I as a user enable the Data services for which I am being charged, and the dispute is going on between Airtel and me.

So far these information is never communicated in spite of requesting for the same.

As explained by your executives, the data services are enabled as default, but where is this mentioned on the Application form from Airtel for Post-paid applications.

If I have activated the same, what documentations were provided as a written consent for enabling these services.I have already made payments from past 6-8 months for unwanted/unnecessary services on my SIM, and so i am willing to pay only under the clarifications of the above details, with date and terms of service.

As per TRAI regulation of July 4th 2011, NO services are to be activated without user consent, which is the case here. I have come to a conclusion that Airtel does not respect any TRAI rules but just want peoples money in their accounts. Making profit and meeting targets is the only rule they follow.
If Airtel is listening, I still demand my right to know the specifics under which the service was activated without my consent, and also the reason as to why I shud pay for not using the service.
