I purchased a Sony LED HD TV (Model no: KDL-40HX850) 2 years ago. Even before the 1 year period could end, the TV stopped working. After much fight Sony service centre replaced it with a new one since it was under warranty. This was in November 2012.
The new TV came with its own warranty of one year (i.e. unto november 2013).
This new TV, again, STARTED GIVING TROUBLE IN OCTOBER END & THROUGHOUT NOVEMBER. It stopped working yesterday all of a sudden showing its blinking red dots. I called customer care and asked for service. The Customer care representatives were extremely rude. I told them that I bought this TV for Rs. 100000 (one lakh) and i certainly did not expect Sony to trick me and give me a TV which only has ONE YEAR's life. They said we will send and engineer and you have to pay Rs. 500 to him for visit and inspection. I agreed and asked when he will come. To this the reply was he will call you whenever he comes. I said look it's my marriage this month and I hardly have time to keep waiting so if you are not sure of the time for the engineer's visit, please tell me the nearest service centre. Hearing this the Customer Representative said "Okay I am canceling the engineer visit then. You can go to the website and search nearest service centre".
Please note : Both the TV's stopped working as soon as they approached ONE YEAR mark.
Anyways after much pushing, the engineer came. This guy simply looked at the tv and showed me that he was trying to work something out and repair it. But instead almost immediately he said the TV set will be repaired as the motherboard is gone. And that it will cost me another Rs. 10000 plus. Plus it will take over 15 days.
In the meanwhile, what am I or my old mother supposed to watch?
In the past one year, all this TV has been used was to watch the daily soap programs which range from 8pm to 10pm by my old mother.
If this LED is good for 60,000 hours I received less than 1% value for my Hard Earned Money. The lesson I learned is always stay away from Sony Products. The same thing happened with my Sony PS3 TOO.
This is my sincere request to GET MY TV REPLACED, because of :-
1. technical fault of product itself,
2. stopping function as soon as one year warranty period approaches,
3. twice the same thing with two different LED HD TV's from Sony
4. Poor product quality.
5. Inefficient/Rude Customer service with Harassment
6. Inconvenience caused
7. Same thing happened with my other purchase of Sony PS3.
I am working in the Media/News Domain. I will not take this incident lightly this time (twice the same thing happened) as it has caused me much inconvenience/grievance/harassment/trouble. My friends have advised me to sue Sony in the consumer court.
Kindly accept my request and replace the TV or else I will have no other option than to go to Consumer Court. I will also make sure I publish this in newspapers and online forums/blogs/websites (including sony's corporate sites)
