I got a return ticket from Tambaram Sanitorium to Saidapet yesterday (24.06.11)and I was using the same ticket to return from saidapet to Tambaram Sanitorium today (25.06.11) as it was written on the ticket that return is valid till mid night of next day.
Saidapet station master asked me to show my ticket and I showed him and he shouted at me stating that I am misusing the ticket. I argued with him that it was a valid one then also he took me to his office to his superior, a lady, and complained to her that I am cheating railways. I argued with her and finally she let me go stating that my point is right. The station master made others to watch me for no mistake of mine and wasted my time too.
The same ticket i showed to the Tambaram Sanitorium station master and he didnt even ask a question
We feel so embarassed if we are questioned in front of others. The station master should definitely say "Sorry" for the same. I am a regular commuter of Southern Railways, and we see so many Railway Employees, (sub-staffs) using the First Class Compartment and occupying most of the seats, (spmetimes with entire family). In such occasions, the railway personnel never bother to ask them any questions. Why this treatment to Common Man?

Read the Guid Lines to passengers in the Ticket back side it says only
"Ticket is valid upto midnight or till the departure of the last train in the dirction of your intended journey for the mentioned day of travel."
which is common for single and return tickets
