I would like your help in getting the attention of The Bangalore City Police regarding the following incident.

I am a manager in a Call center and my kind of work requires me to travel in the night. Since I have not availed the company transport, I travel from Bannergatta road to K R Puram on a two wheeler since it saves a lot of time. Yesterday night 18th Oct (around 11:30pm) on the way back to Bannergatta I had to stop at Silkboard for a client meeting, since I was not familiar with the location I stopped and asked 2 policemen on duty for direction ( thinking it to be the safe and wise thing to do). As per the direction given, I headed out but I could not find my way. When I turned around I noticed that the 2 policemen were following me, I was glad that they were going to help me instead they stopped me and accused me, most of which I didn't understand since it was in Kannada. They asked me to produce my license and the vehicle's papers which I did. They still continued to accuse me and forced me to go to the HSR Police station for reasons I didn't understand. There they threatened to file a case against me for robbery/ misleading the police etc. I called my client company and the administrative head came to police station to speak on my behalf. The policemen immediately said I could leave. They turned the story and explained to my company that they took me into custody for my safety because I was riding with laptop and expensive phone. And to top the whole incident while we were leaving, just outside the police station, the police said we have to pay up some money. We paid Rs. 500, for which we got no receipt.


I don't have any written document/receipt of this police activity which makes all the police claims while at the station and on the road, a complete mockery. The police personal must have wasted 30 to 45 minutes of their and my time except that it earned them Rs 500. This kind of unprofessionalism from police personal patrolling the night, causes law abiding citizens to be harassed, while others get away. I am deeply shaken by this incident and I am not sure how to go about in this city when I can't even trust the police.
