Complaint by: INDIA CORRUPTION on April 1, 2011, 4:34 pm in Government and Police

Public and tourist extortion by police officers in India, broad day light robbery under the nose of Senior officers, land of scams and corruption ( incredible india adv is true to its words) :

Here is copy of complaint I filed to chennaitrafficpolice.in when I was robbed 1100 Rs by Mr. Rajendran SI during my visit to Chennai on 29th march 2011: ( time of incidence 5.45 pm.)

I am foreigner came to Chennai for a visit, I was driving a vehicle with valid driving license. On 29th March when I was apporoaching Kilpauk Gdn road and New Avadi Rd Jn I had a phone call from my home, which I saw the number and kept the phone down. At the same time and spot there were group of traffic police standing at junction who caught me for this reason. With couple of request they failed to understand my explanation. However I readily paid 1100 Rs fine, respecting law, But after taking money from me, I was denied receipt or Challan. We had lot of arguments, but one Mr. Rajendran SI said --do what you want and get lost from here. There were four other officers standing with him and supported his stand. In this process I saw lot of people similarly robbed with money and no receipts were given. In my presence those officers would have made atleast couple of thousand Rupees.

This is broad day light robbing of public in police dress by deputed police who are on public resources. How can there be so much corruption in India and you are still advertising incredible India.

The said group of police harassed me, used foul language and took my money which is going to his pocket. I want to know how can people like Rajendran and his team ( with police bike) can rob people in day time.

I will be sending this complaint to consulate in Canada and relevant minister in India.

Please issue me receipt of 1100 Rs, failing which it will be constituted as criminal offence by your officers.

Sir,

The 100 feet road ( especially from KK Nagar signal, Vadapalani, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu,Thirumangalam and Padi has pedestrian platform which cannot be used by them because of shops misusing them platforms for keeping things, street vendors, illegal parking etc.

Since this road is congested most of the times and used regularly by heavy traffic, I find that the regular users like me are not able to walk safely. If the traffic police monitor this and fine these people this road will be safe and accidents can be reduced. Pedestrians using carriage way to walk is very dangerous for them as well as other motor vehicle users. This will slow down traffic. Now I also see the newly widened road ( Koyambedu to Thirumangalam) is now slowly being taken over by street food carts and street sales people.

If police keep fining these wrong doers continuously this problem can easily be stopped. The biggest mistake the Chennai traffic police is doing is not to fine wrong doers. Please fine the wrong doing shops, restaurants, street food vendors, and street sellers. If this is done 100 feet road will be safe and accidents will come down tremendously. An early action and response to this complaint would be highly appreciated.
