Most payments on my Credit Card that I make are via NEFT as it's a very convenient way to ensure credit the same so what if there are charges for using the service by our own bank? So far it's been very good for me especially in cases where there are holidays & more so when there are no ATM's or Bank Branches to pay from.
However recent 2 transactions have left me flummoxed & stupefied as to what's going on especially when payments via this method are being delayed beyond 24hrs for no unwarranted reasons with no explanation forthcoming.
I'd made a payment via NEFT to my Credit Card Acct.4476-ABCD-WXYZ-7028 for Rs.1300 on 3rd December which I'd clearly expected it to be credited the same day as it normally is instantaneous or latest by 5th December however I received confirmation it was credited on 21:37:09 at 7th December. As far as I know 5th was clearly a working day but 6th was Moharrum (a likely holiday). How things proceeded that far I don't even know but this was a clear lapse by HSBC in posting my payment.
What makes this more preposterous is that when I got my latest statement of my Credit Card, it shows that HSBC charged me a late fee of Rs.400 plus service tax Rs.41.28 dated the 5th of December which clearly means they lagged behind in posting my payment! Also the due date was the 5th so if they received the payment on that day, how could it have been late?? Also my Credit Card statement cycles around the 12th/13th of every month so even if I pay short of the MMN (Minimum Payment) but pay the arrears before the statement cycles, then you won't get finance charges.
However here due to their error, I was docked finance charges of Finance Charges (698.85) & Resulting Service Tax (71.98) for their mistake. I'd also paid Rs.300 on 11th December which following the same pattern was credited on 13th December which is a second lapse as this posting was 48hrs later
Banks like these are clearly arm twisting their customers & patrons because they know that they will get away scot free & laws aren't really in their customers favor. Plus Credit Cards are promoted by the top banks & they play the game well knowing well & being fully aware that a customer will always try to clear their debt first
