On 12th Feb 2011, I received a court notice 'Prelitigation settlement...' on behalf of HSBC, stating that I have a outstanding loan amount of 53000 [approx.] to be paid to HSBC.

The Notice had the details of Loan Account Number and Outstanind loan amount.

The most important thing in the notice was that the Loan Account number / Credit card number is wrong / not owned by me. I have an HSBC credit card which is already closed by bank on accont of no usage and that credit card number is different from that of the one mentioned in the notice.

Along with the Notice, there was a HSBC contact, and I had gone to HSBC bank and met the concerned person and informed him that the Credit card number mentioned in the notice is not owned by me. The HSBC official told verbally that they would investigate the same and took the copies of my driving license and court notice for their reference. He also mentioned to ignore the court notice and the investigation would take months of time.

My question here is,
1. I have not got any acknowledgement/paper proof, that I have responded to the HSBC on the court notice and the HSBC have started an investigation to look into.
Why is that the bank doesnt even provide the acknowledgement that they are investigating.??
If the official I am talking to now leaves the organization, there would be no track. It would be better if I can get the acknowledgement.

2. I already have a credit card. To find out and confirm that the credit card mentioned in the notice is not mine, why does it take months ???
Should I live with this thought for months.

It would be better if I get the acknowlegment and also if the investigation is done in quick time and I am freed of this mess.
