Most harmful to nation is the careless information and display system of Indian railways. It is responsible for loss of billions of national funds by wasting enormous valuable time of millions of passengers at railway stations and in trains.

Railways with the largest work force, is worst managed on all fronts. Its present top management does not seem competent or intelligent enough to handle the organisation and its business. the indifferent attitude of its management towards this condition is reflected in few examples i am quoting below.
1. for many months i am seeing displays at old delhi railway station , showing time of arrival/departure of trains. many trains have same name in display -EMU. the name does not indicate its destination/identity. train numbers are desplayed but do passengers know train numbers? Indian railways can be more customer friendly if complete name/destination is desplayed.
2. on 21.11.11 i saw desplay at old delhi r.s. for train avadh-asam express- it showed expected arrival at 7.35pm and departure at 8.10pm, but till 8.10pm same display continued and train did not turn up. How much time of passengers was wasted as they were even not able to decide what to do. they have no source of information while standing on platforms and they keep ears to announcements but no announcement comes for a long time some time even after lapse of one hour. Keep gazing wrong displays and cursing railways, but valuable time once lost is lost for ever - national loss - huge - no concern ?
3. on 22.11.11 i am travelling on Train 1TR (kosi kalan to rohtak). I arrived at new delhi station. train scheduled for 6.55 pm arrived at 7.55pm . there was no announcement till 7.50 pm, all passengers were abusing railways in their platform group discussions, but did not know what happened to train - whether it will come or not - neither could leave platform nor stop worrying. but railways does not care for passengers.
4. most of the trains come to delhi at full speed but as they approach towards old delhi or new delhi railway station, these are made to move dead slow - wasting lot of precious time, some times trains are made to stand outside these stations or previous stations for long time, waiting for a clear signal - total mismanagement - who is responsibe for this enourmous - loss of billions made over years - ?
5. world has adopted many innovations by which trains can move behind each other but indian trains leave station only when earlier train on line has crossed one station - what is restricting new technology - lethargy - in action - old aged near retirement management - why dont we retire them before time if they cant tink or act as per their job profile.
6. I can write a lot , i have mobile pictures of their wrong displays , i some time feel like i should file a PIL, then fear will it mature or lead to more wastage of precious time.
